The Stupidity of Barbados Free Press Exposed

We on the margin were all very disturbed by post over on Barbados Free Press that we read earlier today. It involved threats against a well known commentator:

Making threats against a person is against the law. With the information in the post, Mr. Loveridge could conceivably go to the police and have them track who had the Caribsurf IP address at the time. BTW the location of Tudor Street discussed in the subsequent comments is not relevant to anything other than as a placeholder for Bridgetown in Google Maps.

It is unfortunate that the Blogosphere in Barbados has evolved into almost a wild west environment. We’ve already written our thoughts about Barbados Free Press, however Barbados Free Press Exposed represents the worst example of cyberthuggery that one can think of. There is no attempt to engage in discussion (which we had hoped is how BFPE would have developed) it is simply brutish, abuse. The output of BFPE is so bad, that the opinion has been voiced that it may well be DLP supporters trying to make the BLP look bad.

Whoever is behind BFPE, they seem to have missed the point that to swamp the BFP with abusive comments only leads persons thinking that there is credence to what is posted on BFP. After all, if it was absolute nonsence no one would devote so much time and resources to shut it down would they? Dale Carnegie had a saying that “No One Kicks A Dead Dog” and that is what is being played out here. Far from stifling BFP, BFPE is making their case for them.

This post may well land us on BFPE’s s**t list. However we believe that our record of fairness and balance stands for all to see. IF (and we stress that word) the political directorate is involved with BFPE, they should know that it is rapidly becoming an embarrassment not only to themselves but to Barbados as a whole.

The operators of BFPE need to think and try again.

  1. Marginal,
They simply don’t and won’t get it. Anyone with half a brain would realise that what you’re saying is correct. It would be reasonably simple to discredit some of what BFP writes if you wanted to but anyone who repeatedly describes anybody else as, “stinking filth” is clearly slightly wacko. I for one am reasonably sure it’s the government and it’s made me support BFP much more than previously. Idiots.

  2. Like you said “anyone with half a brain” those in the Government may be many things but they aren’t stupid.

  3. Why would anyone want to harm Adrian Loveridge? Would not that make him a martyr?
Is this actually a threat against him, or is it a ploy to intimidate us all?
Does the person that made these threats have no fear of prosecution?
Anyway, I am sure that the PM and the Knights of his realm will see that justice is done and that free speech is protected.

  5. I have actually been off island for the last 16 days and have not yet seen the comments mentioned.

It is really sad, when we are seemingly reduced to accepting a society that appears to accept any method of silencing independent thought.

As supporters of both political parties read these various blogs, I would have thought it is both their interests to have their leaders publicly state that this is not the sort of behaviour that will be tolerated.

Let the Prime Minister be the first to set an example, rapidly followed the the leader of the Opposition.
If they both choose to remain silent, we can only be left to assume that they both condone such practices.

  6. What are you talking about, its just some silly ppl with a blog, i threaten ppls lives daily on the net, really nothing the PM should be caught up with, on the other hand the Opposition can reply to it, cause no one never listens to them anyway haha

  7. The use of such diatribe on the blogs would suggest minds in total confusion. We know that the BLP is in a terrible tizzy as a result of the writings and comments on the BLOGS, particularly FreePress and the Underground. The Prime Minister even commented on it recently. If no attention is paid to the BFPE then it will go away. You can easily see the style of writing resembles that of the BLP’s chief HENCHMAN, Royalrumble. Do not be distracted. This is the BLP’s normal behaviour cleverly disguised over the years.
